PLY Magazine — Places Issue
This issue is about places — the places we love, the places we spin, the places fiber comes from, and the places our craft is headed. It’s about geography and intention, about grounding and movement. And, of course, it’s very much about fiber, preparation, and spinning.
You’ll explore some wonderfully big (and surprisingly subtle) questions:
Where is the twist — and where should it be? How does twist placement change your yarn? Where should your hands live while you spin? Does it matter where plyback comes from? Where should your focus and energy be if you’re looking for more consistency? And how important is hand and fiber placement during prep and spinning, really?
This issue digs into fibers that come from a single, specific place — and how that sense of place shows up in the spinning. It takes you traveling, too, from the U.S. to Japan to New Zealand to the U.K., weaving together stories of fiber, culture, and craft along the way.
As always, there are beautiful projects for knitting, crochet, and weaving, paired with thoughtful technique and gentle experimentation. This is one of those issues that invites you to slow down, settle into your favorite chair, pour a cup of tea, and really live in its pages for a while.
It’s contemplative, grounding, and deeply inspiring — a reminder that spinning is as much about where we are as what we’re making.
